The Alleppey Houseboat is a modern twist on the historic large barges, which were an essential part of land’s ethos in days gone by. They were usually operated by two men and were used to transport local goods such as rice, seafood, coconuts, mangoes, spices, and other commodities. The boats would use a network of several bodies of water known as the Alleppey Backwaters. Often referred to as the “Venice of the East” because of its natural beauty, the Alleppey Backwaters are a combination of intertwining lagoons, lakes, and freshwater rivers which are filled with a vast assortment of fresh seafoods and surrounded by lush vegetation that are used in most traditional Indian dishes.
We aspire to turn your dining experience into a culinary journey through the famous backwaters of Kerala. Our dining room provides a warm and relaxing ambience where you can select from wide variety of authentic Indian dishes. If you're thirsty, dive into our bar area and order yourself a drink or two from our fine selection of wines, spirits, and beers!
So climb aboard and let your taste buds set sail on a mouthwatering adventure!

"This place was fab, I think it's been newly refurbished over lockdown, well at least it seemed it did. It was my first time and what a pleasure it was! The decor was simple yet lovely, the social distancing was great (it wasn't super busy but it may have been down to staff/customer ratios). Staff were really attentive and we were asked if all was ok on several occasions, in a super polite manner. They had an extensive menu, lots of veggie options and side dishes that could have been mains if you had a bigger appetite than me (which really isn't hard). Food was fresh and served hot. There was plenty of chutneys to go round too! I will definitely be visiting again and will definitely go with an empty stomach!"
"Visited this week following reopening as a 2nd visit and, over many years of trying different indian restaurants in the West Midlands area, this is up there as one of the best. In particular, main courses such as the Alleppey Fish Curry and Railway Lamb have multiple layers of flavour which is hard to find and richly piced. The garlic chilli chicken was perhaps too spicy for our taste, but is testament to how rich the dish was with fresh garlic, chillies and again different spices. Friendly staff who are on hand to help and advise on dishes as needed which we will do for next time and nice touch that the chef even came out to ask about the food, again reinforcing the authentic, homemade feel.
Additionally, was a mistake with the starter, but testament to the establishment that it was immediately rectified and replacement made freshly. Highly recommended."
"We were visiting from Dorset and found this fantastic restaurant. Food full of flavour, well presented, not greasy and really tasty. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff giving excellent service, from our initial phone call and throughout the evening. So........excellent food and service all at a good price. What’s not to like. Thank you."
"We visited The Alleppey Boat this evening for the first time, to celebrate my moms birthday, and we were not disappointed. The decor was very stylish, clean and contemporary. The staff and tables were all adhering to social distancing and we felt extremely safe, relaxed and comfortable. My daughter is vegan and the staff were so helpful in her making a suitable choice- she opted for a mild vegetable balti that she thoroughly enjoyed. I shared the lamb chops starter and they we’re so delicious! Main for me was tandoori chicken tikka, I tend to have this most times I go for a curry and this was a stand out one. My mom had salmon curry that was so tasty, other dishes enjoyed were a chicken korma( my son doesn’t do spice) spicy veg Baltic, garlic chicken and a prawn dish- all delicious. Even the chips that the children shared were utterly yummy. The staff were attentive but not overbearing. Perfect relaxed evening and we will definitely be returning."
"Fantastic service from the staff at alleppey boat, very welcoming. The food lived up to the high expectations we had going in. The samosa chat in particular is a must have starter leaving you craving another portion. The mains were brilliant all round. All in all, a great experience. Will definitely be coming back."
"Genuinely authentic Indian food with cordially hospitable service. Has a wide range of choicest dishes from across the foody regions of India. I am tempted to say that Alleppey Boat offers a taste of great Indian food right here in the UK...superb decor & ambience .... Impatient to dine there again & again. "I had the chicken tikka masala and it was absolutely beautiful! Best I've ever had, so creamy. Naan was beautiful also. My new fave curry house"
